I agonized over a name (which I still love to this day as it is based around the concept that nutrition and fitness are like parallel lines, you can’t have one without the other) and I attempted to create a website with what little (ok none) experience I had of website design. I was pregnant and emotional and this whole situation felt daunting and discouraging since I had about two clients that whole summer, one being my mom. But nevertheless I continued on as we travelled from country to country and slowly, very slowly, took on a few new online clients. When I then got pregnant with Kinsley, we knew that the time had come to find a permanent home and get back to teaching classes along with any online work. So we moved in with my parents and started the search for our own house. In the meantime I began my first 12 week challenge. I believe there were about 15 people in total in those groups. When we found our house, we knew it would be the perfect set up to build the gym and carry on with these challenges. So we moved, and those challengers moved with me. And from there, we grew. We grew into a family of 4, and a business that has now outgrown the current space. And here, after two and a half years in this house, I can honestly say this is exactly what my dream had been. Going back to the day I started (and stopped) working in that Vancouver gym, I knew that it was about so much more that the training. For me, it’s about the people. I love what I do. But I wouldn’t be where I am without my clients, my friends. Being a trainer is literally all encompassing. My clients rely on me, they confide in me, they support me and we share our goals, our successes, our failures, and sometimes our tears. THIS is what makes it all worthwhile. I needed more than just a surface relationship with my clients. I needed to know how I could truly help these people on a whole different level. And here I am today, still in shock that I have received this award but so incredibly grateful. From two clients to over 100, each and every one of these people are the reason I am where I am today. I am so lucky to love my job and even more lucky to get to work with all these wonderful people on a daily basis. You guys are my inspiration.
I also have to say that I wouldn't be where I am today without my family and my husband. I have a tendency to take a thought and run with it no matter what anyone says. And even though a lot of conversations go like this: me: “I was thinking….” my family: “oh god” they always always stood by and supported me and helped me in any way they could. My parents yard no longer had grass from all the sprints. My parents watch my children so I can work. My parents helped us lay the gym floor and my mom even cooked for us when I simply didn’t have time. They are beyond exceptional. And my poor husband takes the brunt of all my stress when some days I am too busy to function but manage to get it all done because he will take on whatever I can’t. He pushes me to work hard and continually supports whatever goals I can dream up. I would not be where I am today without any of them. My gratitude cannot be expressed with words. Thank you guys.
